Carnal Tomb - Festering Presence

CARNAL TOMB - Festering Presence (LYCANTHROPIC CHANTS - 7"EP 2021)

Carnal Tomb caught my attention very early, just after their first demo "Ascend" was released. I consider them as one of the better acts among all those younger death metal bands from Germany, and they did confirm that already with some killer recordings. "Festering Presence" is the newest release they did, it's a 7" unleashed through Lycanthropic Chants. Damn, I have to say that I just love such releases. I am big fan of that format, for it mostly offers exclusive material and so often bands pick up some of their best songs for it. So did Carnal Tomb.

These guys rip with a ferocious old school death metal assault, strongly influenced by the Swedish style. Yeah, it’s nothing new, I know. Yeah, there are many bands alike, even in Germany. But it requires a bit more to really impress with this style of death metal and Carnal Tomb definitely has everything I want to hear in it and have also fuckin quality. Both songs on this EP shred. The title track is ferocious, it is nasty and fast, but with some more memorable parts like that damn chorus... It is more infectious than a fuckin virus that ruled our world. And it is just beautiful, man. Second song "Dust" is often slower, more epic and more melodic, it is so insanely catchy that it is easily dismembering the listener. And then entombing him in the filthiest of the crypts. Yeah... Truly great stuff. There are fantastic riffs everywhere, killer leads also, I like the production (which I think is better than on their last album “Abhorrent Veneration”) and just everything else. These guys are brilliant. So, if you collect these seven inches of death, do yourself a favour and do not miss this one.

Verdict: 85/100
