Archives of the Dead part XXXIV - Abnormity - Abnormity

Archives of the Dead part XXXIV - Abnormity - Abnormity (Demo 1991)

Recorded in 25th of May 1991 at Musikhuset Runan (Täby)

Line-up: Christopher Vowden (guitar / bass/ vocals), Linus Johnasson (drums)

Demo for today to check is Abnormity from Täby in Sweden, who released their only cassette back in 1991. This self titled demo contained three songs and to be honest, it wasn't anything special for these old days. But it wasn't bad neither. Even though Abnormity didn't have anything what would distinguish them from mediocrity and dozens of similar bands, we could only imagine what would happen later if only Abnormity survived and carried out, maybe for a 7" or another demo. Because they definitely had good enough ideas and riffs in their sick heads to create cool death metal.

This self titled demo sounds very obscure and primitive nowadays, which is something we all obviously love to hear haha! But you could easily pick up some nice riffs here, I like that vicious, brutal feel of this music, its harsh, brute sound (although that reverb on a snare drum pisses me off a little)... And also that their music was more aggressive and faster when compared to many more melodic and doomy Swedish bands. Among these three songs, "Desecrated Torture" definitely makes the best impression. Shame then that the band had to be ended, after one of its members died (killed by a train, if I can believe what Metal Archives says). Of all other band members, only Christopher Vowden carried on playing in bands like Absurd ("Storm of Malevolence" EP) and Expulsion ("A Bitter Twist of Fate" among few).

There's a decently sounding cassette-rip in the internet, so you could easily find this demo and check it out yourself. All copies, which I've found on Discogs cost way too much to bother, so digital file is the best way to check Abnormity out.

Verdict: 65/100
