Spectral Voice - Necrosis Doom

SPECTRAL VOICE - Necrosis Doom (DARK DESCENT - LP 2015)

Considering the current condition of US death metal scene, I have to say that the new generation of death metal bands there is something amazing. There are some bands, which really blew my head off with their demos or albums and in many ways, they replaced some tired older acts for me. I am just not interested to hear tenth Deicide album anymore. I prefer some young guns. And Spectral Voice is right there on the top of my list of favourites. It feels like they came out of nowhere, so quickly they gained a status of respected and worthy band. In 2015 they released "Necrosis Doom" demo and then two split 7"EPs (with Blood Incantation and Phrenelith - so, another two prime bands from the young death metal scene) and before "Eroded Corridors of Unbeing" album came out, Spectral Voice was already everybody’s new favourite. Truly deserved, as "Necrosis Doom" is excellent. This demo has everything what obscure, mouldy death metal needs and even more!

There are three tracks on "Necrosis Doom" and I suppose that the easiest way to describe them would be Incantation meets Anatomia meets Abhorrence meets Demilich meets Dead Congregation meets... Let's not go any deeper into that, I hope you know what to expect. It's murky, obscure death / doom metal, one of those, which sound incredibly monstrous and morbid. The riffage is heavy as hell, but it's also powerful and atmospheric - evoking a feeling of horror and dismay. It's dense, almost claustrophobic in that aspect that the music overwhelms, like coffin walls were about to come closer and closer until they crush you into a pile of blood, meat and bones. And believe me, these riffs are great. The music is mostly just slow or mid paced, but it never bores or becomes tiresome. And vocals – well, they just sound like frightening beastly growls. Take all the ingredients together and we get three absolutely stunning death metal crushers. Fantastic demo, one of the best this decade for sure. Only fools will not care.

Standout track: “Horrid Phantasm”

Verdict: 85/100
