Soul Snatcher - Pylons of Dispersion / Azazel

SOUL SNATCHER - Pylons of Dispersion / Azazel (REDRUM666 - CD 2009)

Here's a death metal album, which I like a lot, but which is very little known. The band is called Soul Snatcher and it's a Polish legion with members of bands such as DeivosDira Mortis, Abusiveness, Ulcer. Yes, this is fuckin Lublin scene! Soul Snatcher only did this one album - or a compilation, really, of two demos: "Pylons of Dispersion" and Azazel" - released back in 2009 by Redrum666. And I really think it's a killer death metal, it's harsh and underground stuff, but it has everything I like about this music.

There's viciousness, aggression, fast stuff, but also crushing slower tempos, dark atmosphere... All songs have this neck breaking, brutal feel, riffs are tight and everything is very intense, punching in the face from the very first second till the last one. Soul Snatcher has riffs in the vein of bands like Vader, Immolation, Morbid Angel, Diabolic, Malevolent Creation, Damnation - so, the whole range of different death metal influences, all focused on brutality and relentless whipping. Until you bleed like a pig! It's mostly fast as hell, but Soul Snatcher does everything to avoid monotonous, one dimensional songs, so there's always room for slower bits, guitar leads or whatever. And they do it all very well. Best songs are those from "Azazel": title song and "Thorns to the Prophets", which show a good progression in band's music, better ideas, etc. But generally, this whole material is a solid and uncompromising, crushing piece of death metal.

What a shame we don't hear from Soul Snatcher anymore. If you put together four such good death metal musicians, the results could only be super-fuckin-good. So, it's a lost potential for me. But at least there's "Pylons of Dispersion / Azazel". This CD is nothing rare, nothing expensive, so I recommend you all you grab a copy of this shit!

Standout tracks: “Azazel”, "Thorns to the Prophets"

Verdict: 75/100
