Barbaric Horde - Axe of Superior Savagery

BARBARIC HORDE - Axe of Superior Savagery (GODZ OV WAR - CD 2020)
I don't think there could be more suitable band-name than Barbaric Horde, if you play this sort of black metal. Or war metal, or however you're gonna call it. This Portuguese duo takes their influences from the most evil and blasphemous, most cruel sounding and possessed, primitive bands, such as Blasphemy, Revenge, Proclamation, Bestial Raids, Black Witchery, Diocletian and so forth. And they do not even try to do something different than the most used and characteristic patterns from that genre. Constant, straight forward wall of chaotic, primitive and slaying riffs, simple and one-dimensional song structures, fast drumming, sick, demonic vocals, harsh, obscure production... Yes, it is all there and as such "Axe of Superior Savagery" doesn't bring anything different. But these fuckers are good.
A lot of such bands bore me, to be honest, only few really convince me that they have something more to offer than just boring wall of chaotic, unreadable riffage and the same obscene lyrics. "Axe of Superior Savagery" definitely stands above the mediocrity, with some truly crushing riffs, great malicious atmosphere and savage, powerful sound, which doesn't stink like the most abhorrent recording ever. Actually, Barbaric Horde plays that sort of black metal exactly how I like it to sound, so even if it's quite one dimensional, it doesn't bore me, as it's just 28 minutes of music. Definitely a worthy debut then, so give it a try.
Verdict: 75/100
