Omnizide - Death Metal Holocaust

OMNIZIDE - Death Metal Holocaust (CARNAL Records - LP 2014)
Omnizide caught my attention already with their debut 7"EP "Pleasures from Death" from 2013. Their debut LP "Death Metal Holocaust" is obviously another absolutely worthy and recommended piece of music from this project. It's interesting to note that Omnizide is slightly different to many bands around. While their music is deeply rooted in early 90's obscure, grim Darkthrone'ish black metal, especially from such classic records as "A Blaze in the Northern Sky", "Goatlord" and "Under the Funeral Moon", it also brings some morbid death metal influences, alike to such acts as Autopsy or Nihilist. And lyrically Omnizide describes all the sickest and most evil horror themes, such as satanic rites, zombies, holocaust, vampires... So, if you take together all these characteristics of "Death Metal Holocaust", you will get an album based on classic, mainly black metal, formulas, yet introduced in a bit different way.
This album is old school to the bone, with absolutely no signs of modern metal styles. There's very harsh production, obscure, morbid aura, filth and possession, cold, hateful vocals, vicious riffage... You would think that Omnizide do not really invent the wheel and this style of music was played so many times before that it's already boring and impossible to impress anymore. You couldn't be more wrong. "Death Metal Holocaust" songwriting is absolutely spot on, simplistic, yet memorable songs, killer riffs, some eerie melodic lines, splendid vocals and that horror atmosphere sound amazing on vinyl. And the fact that at times it all reminds me the best Darkthrone days of old (such "Monolith" could easily be on "Panzerfaust") and next song sounds more like an early 90's obscure death metal is a huge bonus for me. Highlights are "The Eternally Damned" and "Crystals of Death". But this is a crushing material, with no fillers anywhere and I can only recommend it.
Standout tracks: "Rotting Flesh Parade", "The Eternally Damned", "Crystals of Death"
Verdict: 80/100
