NADSVEST - Kolo ognja i železa (UNDER THE SIGN OF GARAZEL - CD 2019)
This is an excellent release from Under the Sign of Garazel, definitely one of my favourite black metal CDs of this year. Here's Nadsvest from Serbia with their debut recording "Kolo ognja i železa". It may be their first recording together, but both Nadsvest members are already experienced musicians - Atterigner (from Serbia) could be known from his work as vocalist in Gorgoroth and Krigeist (from New Zealand) is also a member of fantastic Barshasketh (great, recommended band!). Together they brought to life Nadsvest and damn, "Kolo ognja i železa" is great, worthy material.
To say it simply, "Kolo ognja i železa" is a total worship of the second wave of black metal. This music reeks of the influences from the old Norwegian scene and such bands as Darkthrone, Ulver, Gorgoroth and even Satyricon or Kampfar, as aside to harsh, vicious black metal riffage you can find a bit of more melodic and atmospheric parts. The atmosphere is very important; hateful screaming vocals, haunted howls, aggression, cold, grim aura... Everything what always characterised early Norwegian BM recordings is here. And maybe Nadsvest doesn't offer anything extraordinary or exceptional, but quality of all four songs on this CD is great beyond my expectations, I absolutely love what they have done here. Take such "Pesma prokletih" as an example, what a song it is! Or the title track, which in the end sounds almost like a good, old Bathory. It's very impressive all the way through, especially the vocals of Atterigner are excellent (what surprised me a lot, but I haven’t really paid any attention to Gorgoroth’s “Instinctus Bestialis”, where he sang). It all emanates with passion and talent for this sort of black metal. I can only wish it was more material than these 27 minutes. On the other hand, it’s better to leave a listener in lust for more than put him to sleep bored by forgettable album.
Standout tracks: "Pesma prokletih"
Verdict: 85/100
