Coercion - Delete

COERCION - Delete (PERVERTED TASTE MUSIC - CD 1999)
I must admit that for many years I didn't even realize that a band called Coercion exists somewhere there. At the time when these Swedes have released their both full length albums I never heard of them, and I don't know if it was because I didn't pay enough attention or simply because both Coercion albums were released by small label Perverted Taste Music. Let's be honest, it has never been prolific label, with vast distribution line and great advertising campaign hehe. Besides, Coercion was not a band that was coming with the first wave of Swedish death metal... Sure, they had some demos released in 1993 and 94, but the debut album "Forever Dead" was released in 1997 and at that time we were all more excited about the black metal coming from Norway rather than about some unknown Swedish death metal bands. Anyway, couple of years ago I've read something about Coercion and decided to buy their second album "Delete", hoping to hear some cool death metal. I wasn’t sure if this album will good at all, especially as “Delete” was released in 1999 and it wasn’t the best year for underground death metal... Hmm, great death metal records were just very few back then and they rather came from biggest names of the scene as well as from some more established underground acts such as Vomitory, Centinex, Fleshcrawl... But I can honestly say that the name Coercion should be added to this list. Yeah, "Delete" definitely meets my expectations and I am very please to say this is very cool Swedish death metal record... Yeah, Coercion is yet another name on the Swedish death metal map, which you must know and get their stuff immediately!
I think I can risk saying that "Delete" is one of the best Swedish death metal albums of the time (end of the 90’s). What I like especially about it is that it is pure death metal, so Coercion doesn't fuck around with keyboards, female vocals or other bullshit, but actually play pure, classic death metal. And so there are some faster and brutal songs, then some slower stuff, but also more melodic tracks here and there... Mainly it is groovy and mid paces, so maybe nothing exceptionally original, I know, but the result is just really, really good here. And I can say that I like it a lot.
I guess one of my favourite songs on the album is "Carve the Stone". What an awesome opener! It is quite groovy, but with a lot of aggressive, classic death metal parts and there are even some blasting fast fragments here and there, so in the end it is very diverse, but classic death metal tune. Great riffing! Great vocals of Kenneth Nyman! Great sound! "Once I Cared" sounds like At the Gates a lot, just check that opening motif hehe. But it is also very good track, with great feeling and powerful playing. Following with "Eclipsed", it has some resemblance to Grave, even Gorefest and Six Feet Under... and so on and on; many great songs, many great riffs... I absolutely feel like none of these tracks here are bad, there are no fillers, but just very good death metal stuff, played with passion, groove and aggression. If you prefer slow and heavy pieces then such songs as the awesome "Without Aim", "Life Denied" or "Evolution Reversed" will be for you for sure and will be enough to satisfy your hunger for killer death metal. Do we need anything more? I don't think so. "Delete" is good as it is and I can truly recommend you this criminally unknown and underrated band and almost forgotten album.
Standout tracks: "Carve the Stone", "Mental Turmoil", "Without Aim"

Thunderbolt - The Burning Deed of Deceit

THUNDERBOLT - The Burning Deed of Deceit (AGONIA Records)
I must say that I prefer the more recent recordings of Thunderbolt, such phenomenal LPs as "Inhuman Ritual Massmurder" and "Apocalyptic Doom", which truly are superb pieces of extreme, fast and furious black metal. Yeah, definitely they belong to my favourite Polish black metal records of all time. But obviously Thunderbolt didn't start with these two albums, but had several other recordings prior to them... And while some ideological matters of early Thunderbolt bring mixed feelings, then I truly think that musically this band was always ready to defend themselves. "The Sons of the Darkness" - great album, again. And the second LP "The Burning Deed of Deceit" is even better; maybe not as killer as albums number three and four, but very, very close. This album comes in black gatefold cover (limited to 500 copies!) and already the whole layout can say a lot about the music… it is classic black metal layout, so very simple, black / white colouring, with great logo, goat's figure on the cover, gothic font everywhere and obviously with corpsepainted Paymon on the photo; who at the time was the only member of Thunderbolt (he used session musicians during the recording session, like an ex-drummer of Hate, Mittloff; but most of the instruments were played by him). And music fits this perfectly, as it also is just pure, classic, very Scandinavian sounding slab of hateful, but monumental black metal.
When I listen to "The Burning Deed of Deceit" I feel like the music was often very close to Emperor's early works, if only Emperor was less orchestral and way, way faster. But there are several slower, more epic fragments like in such songs as "Lord of Creation" and "Die With Your Religion", where you can hear some Emperor-like keyboards and even the vocals turn close to Ihsahn's howling. Don't treat this comparison as an accusation, as that's not what I meant. It is just to give you some of my first impressions, which I had when I was listening to "The Burning Deed of Deceit". Besides, there is just much more in the music of Thunderbolt than Emperor only. First and foremost, the album contains many fast and obscure parts. Paymon concentrates a lot on fast and uncompromising playing, but luckily does not forget about the atmosphere of black metal, about the coldness and grimness, which are so integral for it. But putting aside the influence taken from the classic Norwegian black metal; mainly bands like Emperor, Enslaved, Urgehal, Kvist, Troll (but again, with much less keyboards) - first and foremost I must just write that "The Burning Deed of Deceit" is perfectly written black metal album. Each song is quite lengthy, from six up to ten minutes on the clock, but they have a lot of diversity, with great balance between the harshness, ferocity and epicness, with many great riffs and ideas, fantastic harsh vocals... It is almost impossible to pick up my favourite track, because the quality within every song and through the entire LP is the same; high as fuck. I can understand though if some of you will say that the album is slightly monotonous, because it feels like it, but that's because you need to listen to it carefully, hear the riffs, tempo changes, keyboard fillings, melodies and so on and on; only then you can realize that this album is not a constant wall of unreadable blast, but something more interesting and intriguing.
Personally I love it. This is one of these albums, which you play in candle lightened room, maybe have just enough of light to be able to read the lyrics and only then you can truly hear the music and let its feeling and atmosphere devour you and freeze your blood. Just listen to such "Blood of the Victorious King", with all these layers, which this song has. It is nothing new in this kind of music of course, but it's just very well composed and performed black metal, with many awesome ideas. With such songs as "Blood of the Victorious King", "Die With Your Religion", "Key to the Century of Death" and with Darkthrone's "Transilvanian Hunger" cover for the end, I have no doubts that it is a strong material and it should be praised by all black metal maniacs. Sadly I also have a feeling like Thunderbolt and "The Burning Deed of Deceit" are very underestimated, while I am sure that if it was recorded by a Norwegian, not Polish band, then people around the world would piss themselves saying how cult this band and album are. Who cares for stupidity.
Standout tracks: "Blood of the Victorious King", "Die With Your Religion", "Key to the Century of Death"

Necroven - Descent into the Cryptic Chasm

NECROVEN - Descent into the Cryptic Chasm (BLOOD HARVEST - 7"EP 2014)
Necroven... If I can be honest, I have not heard any music from this band, until just last week. But don't blame me; there are so many great old styled death metal bands around that it becomes almost impossible to check all of them and buy every CD or LP, which appears. So, this way I never had a chance to hear Necroven demos or debut album "Woship of Humiliation" (released by Memento Mori). But recently Blood Harvest Records released Necroven's newest recording, which is a 7"single titled "Descent into the Cryptic Chasm" and I finally decided it is about time to check what J.R. is having to offer in his solo project. And damn, "Descent into the Cryptic Chasm" is just killer and I need to get "Worship of Humiliation" asap... I am very curious what this album is like. And if it is as good as this small vinyl then it is a blast!
OK then... "Descent into the Cryptic Chasm" are two tracks of slimy, doomy, heavy, grim and eerie death metal. There are some traces of bands such as Immolation, Incantation, Vital Remains, Asphyx, Ignivomous, Cruciamentum, as well as the classic Finnish and Swedish scenes, so it is nothing original and unusual nowadays, but it doesn't matter as both songs, which Necroven has recorded for this EP are just awesome. They just sound like a fuckin bulldozer, it is a damn slaughter and nothing can stop the bloodshed! They also freeze blood with creepy horror atmosphere of Lovecraftian mythology, of horrendous creatures and obscure places. Yeah, we all love such death metal and believe me that Necroven really composed a couple of killer songs for this single. I especially liked the song titled "Weapons of Degration"; it is just truly amazing and bloodshedding music, with excellent riffs, killer vocals... It is very intense, speeding up near the end, so the riffs are like the wall of sound or maybe I should write the walls of coffin, in which you're closed... you're running out of air and the claustrophobic, panic feeling is growing and growing, the walls of coffin seems to be closing and closing, when you're trying to grasp one more breath... Really excellent song, but the track from side A (title song) is equally killer, here also everything sounds just perfect and that gloomy atmosphere with more melodic riff, reminding me the good old Nihilist a lot, is just superb.
All in all I must say that Necroven impressed me a lot and "Descent into the Cryptic Chasm" is just brilliant. It is always a fantastic feeling when you get to know a new band and this band turns out to be so incredibly great that you just want to play their music over and over again. This is exactly what I feel when I listen to this 7"single and believe me, it is not an exagerration, but these two songs are better than 90% of other old styled death metal stuff, which is active nowadays. Yeah, now I need to get some other recordings of Necroven, it is a fuckin must for me!

Thunderwar - The Birth of Thunder

THUNDERWAR - The Birth of Thunder (Self financed - CD 2013)
Life keeps surprising me all the time and every week the metal underground brings some killer new bands. Here is a band, which I haven't heard about until couple of weeks ago, but I already have their debut EP and I feel very impressed by their music. They're called Thunderwar - yeah, not the most suitable name for death metal band, I guess, most maniacs will probably think it fits some power or viking metal bands more, but who cares... They were first called Perun, so the first band moniker was even more misleading hehe. These four young lads have just recorded their first EP titled "The Birth of Thunder", released in 500 copies on truly awesome digipack and I am amazed. First off, great packaging. It is selfreleased CD, but of very high quality, what makes you think you don't really need record labels anymore, you can do everything by yourself! Here we have a digipack, with truly killer artwork in the front, plus the music, which is professionally recorded (Hertz Studio - great sound quality guaranted)... Yeah, these guys did great job with the whole packaging, but also with the production and finally also the songs are very good, so summing it all up - we have really great debut here!
The music of Thunderwar is death metal. Stylistically they are close in my opinion to bands such as Vader, Unleashed, Pestilence (these vocals remind me some Patrick Mamelli a lot hehe), some late era Death... There are even more thrashing riffs, in style of recent Kreator albums, so if you take some characteristic parts of each of these bands, then you may know what "The Birth of Thunder" is like. Their music is not too brutal, in my opinion, it is rather kind of more atmospheric death metal, with some quite melodic riffs here and there, but with few fast and aggressive moments as well, so we have a nice diversity in the music of Thunderwar. This music is also quite memorable, I bet many of these riffs will stick in your head for good. Personally I prefer their more aggressive and vicious side, while some melodic moments are not bad, but not entirely in my musical taste (especially in the song called "Eagle of Glory", which may have some too Amon Amarth like moments... and I am not a big fan of this Swedish band). But my favourite song is probably "Vimana (The Chariots of Heaven)", for its great death thrashing riffing and kind of epic chorus, what sounds really cool. Meanwhile the instrumental track "The Birth of Thunder" will surprise for its atmospheric music, use of acoustics and just completely different to the rest of material feeling. It does fit the EP somehow, so it is good stuff. Yeah, I can say that I definitely enjoyed the music from this Warsaw based band and I think that we will hear some more good stuff from Thunderwar in the near future. Keep your eyes open!

Hin Hale - Beyond

HIN HALE - Beyond (FALLEN TEMPLE - 7"EP 2014)
I have just been introduced to this band from Västeras by Fallen Temple Records, who are releasing their 2010 demo on 7" vinyl (14 minutes of music on one 7" - fuck!). And damn, this Swedish horde of death slays like crazy and I must say that I love such sounds of obscure, utterly evil and merciless thrashing speed black metal. Fuck yeah, total old school and classic metal, embraced in filthy, but readable production, with slashing riffs, harsh vocals... Give me more of that! Here is Hin Hale (what stands for Satan in old Swedish!). "Beyond" is their 2010 demo, and so far it's also the only recording of the band... if you've never had a chance to listen to them, do it now.
I cannot imagine a better sound for such music that the one, which the guys from Hin Hale have on this recording. Awesome guitar tone, the drums, which sound like drums, not some computer sampled shit... and more so, there's this smell of sulphur and great EVIL atmosphere floating around everything. Musically Hin Hale reminds me many bands, and obviously many would be classic 80's acts, but from "newer" hordes I would especially mention Nifelheim, Damnation (Sweden), Sabbat, Pest (Sweden, from their recent LP!), Witchmaster, Necrocurse, Repugnant and even some of my recent favourites - Slaughter Messiah from Belgium and Desolator from US. These four songs are excellent; they are catchy as hell, slay with killer riffs and sound exactly as I like in this sort of music. Maybe the only thing, which I would probably change are some high pitched vocals, which appear here and there, as I have never been a huge fan of those, but I can live with them; all in all speed metal is a great influence for Hin Hale, so there must be some high pitched screams here and there hehe. "Beyond / Morbid Black", "Plaguestorm" and "Witches End" are my favourite songs here, but honestly all four are awesome and I like Hin Hale music a lot. Hope that this band will release some more music, as it's already been almost four years since they have recorded "Beyond". Totally recommended 7" then and the best Fallen Temple release so far.

Interview with Voidhanger

Interview with Warcrimer from the killer Polish thrashing black metal band Voidhanger!

Hailzzz Warcrimer! Great to have a chance to talk to you. You know, you’ve been a member of three killer Polish bands, but for me it is the first opportunity to ask you some questions. Better late than never, I guess. So, let’s play some great records and start. Ready?

Sure. I know you put a lot of effort in the questions, so I'll try give you some more extensive answers than my favourite "I don't give a fuck". I'm don't like interviews and I prefer when the music / lyrics and artwork speak for themselves.

Hehe, thanks for trying then! I do appreciate that! I would like to start this interview, asking you about patriotism.  What is patriotism to you and do you feel patriotic towards your country? I am asking it, because personally I have noticed in myself that I may feel connected emotionally towards the land and family, some friends, but less and less I feel that I have anything in common with 99% of the Polish nation, so it kind of leads towards the despise of both country and nation. It is just becoming truly impossible to feel the same emotional link, when I observe what it going on here, on both political area and religious matter, not to mention the typical Polish behaviours and stereotypes.
Well, I think it's complicated. On the one hand, I feel absolutely no connection to 99,9% of Polish society, but I can say the same about any society of any other country, be it worthless politicians of all options, old catholic pricks, modern day, brain-washed youth or metalheads as a whole. I don't like people in general, so I just live my own life trying to keep my interaction with other people to a minimum. On the other hand, in every day life, Poland is my homeland, the place where I was born and raised. I respect our history, I hail those who died for the independence of my country and I'd die myself to defend it. The home is where the heart is and my heart will forever stay Poland even though people around me make me sick. That's what patriotism means to me.

Everyone who’s living here know how sometimes incredibly closed minded and generally how deeply rooted in the Middle Ages is the huge part of the community here; and obviously also how religiously fanatical are many Poles. Personally when I watch some events that are happening here, first I react with a great anger, then with laughter but after a while I just stop to care and to be honest I also try to just live my own life, away from all that. How do you personally react on some events that are happening here, in the government, catholic church, even in TV, with some pointless debates about gender, abortion, cross, Smolensk or whatever silly shit?
The silly shit you noticed is just a cover-up as they try to draw people's attention form our ruined economy. What's even worse is the fact that most of those idiots seem to believe that gender or religious debates are crucial to the future of this country. That's how I see it. Sometimes it makes me laugh, sometimes it makes me angry as I live here after all. As for the first part of your question, I don't know what's worse - catholic, close-minded old pricks or modern, brain-washed youth thinking they're better. Two sides of the same coin, the coin that I flush down the toilet.

What do you think about the situation when 20% of the Polish youth is emigrating to another countries, to seek for better perspectives? I mean, is the nation already so materialistic that they can’t live and work here? All in all, Poland is economically evolving, it is not a third world country anymore, but a developing mid European country and truly, despite many problems, which our government has to resolve, it is not a bad life here. Have you personally ever thought about leaving Poland and emigrate to UK, Holland or Norway? At the same time Poles have developed the image of workaholics, but also of thieves, drunkards with moustaches and almost kind of new gipsies, who are everywhere and are like plague, which is infecting the „civilized countries” hehe.
You ask about something I'm totally indifferent to, but ok. I think the problem is more complicated and it concerns people form Eastern Europe in general, not only Poles. So it's not a susprise a lot of people from Poland, Czech Republic etc are looking for a better life in UK or Norway. I can understand that. Not everyone is smart enough to start and run his own business or get a decent job and we both know what you can afford with your average salary in Poland. I know a lot of guys who are busting their asses off in factories and they could barely pay the bills. Then they moved to Ireland or Norway and now they still work in factories but they make a decent living
so I will make no radical statements here. Of course, there is also the other side of emigration with lots of lazy bastards living on uneployment benefits etc, but to be honest - I don't give a fuck. As for me, I'm doing OK here in Poland. I had lived in the UK for several months, but it was just some kind of adventure. My place is here and I hope I won't have to move anywhere.

Metalheads, especially from such furious, satanic and extreme bands as Infernal War / Iperyt / Voidhanger are probably considered by people as criminals, violently behaving and antisocial misfits. How would you describe yourself? I mean we all may listen to aggressive music, but would that mean that we walk with knives and torches on the streets and kill the christians? I know you’ve got a newborn child, so did the arrival of a kid change some of the perspectives of how you view life, behave and so on? Are you still People Hater?
I don't feel like describing myself. I am who I am and I don't care how others see me. I'm not a very social person, that's for
sure. I'm not a choirboy, either, but I'd rather keep it to myself. Besides, the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. Yes, I have a daughter, a family, a decent job and very few people I care of. I'm definitely not a miserable blackmetaller wearing black costumes and fucking star wars boots 24/7. But what I write and sing about reflects real feelings, emotions, beliefs or personal experiences which are very important part of my life. And I'm dead serious about them. It's not a pose, but I don't need to prove anything to anyone. To be honest, I couldn't care less.

OK, let’s leave these social or other problems behind. All in all Voidhanger has released new album! Are you happy with it? How would you compare „Working Class Misanthropy” to the two previous releases?
Sure, I think it's one of the best albums I have ever recorded. Musically, it's logical continuation of "The Antagonist" mCD, but even rawer, more powerful and deeply rooted in extreme metal of the 80’s. In retrospect, I can say I am even more satisfied with the album now than I was just after the recordings. It's a rare feeling, I guess. I know I could say more, but I'm not very good at marketing, apparently.

How should I understand the title of new album? I mean the titles of two previous releases were more straight forward, speaking of their meaning… Wrathprayers, the antagonists… so, you, who’re against certain sacred values and so called ethics, you flowing against the tide. And now we have „Working Class Misanthropy”, which is more enigmatic and not so obvious. There are many fucks in the lyrics of the title song, so is this what this song and the meaning of it is all about a kind of arrogant fuck off attitude? Please explain yourself hehe!
Well, it's some kind of middle finger to all those "black metal" idiots who associate misanthropy, nihilism or attraction to the darkness with being a miserable, walking failure living in a
world of fantasy. I am satisfied with my everyday life, but it's my relation to the darkside, the longing for the unknown that drives me forward.  I will not go into details as in some way it became too personal for me, but that's the main inspiration for Voidhanger's lyrics, along with my attitude towards humanity as a whole. Hence the title. Of course, I could have used more sophisticated means of lyrical expression, but now too many bands try to be lyrical clone of Deathspell Omega and I want to do things my own way.

The artwork for the new album is also quite different and probably there will be many interpretations of it. Tell me though what did you try to portray with it and how did the cooperation with Alexander L. Brown (who’s also a guitarist in Witchrist) look like? Did he have a free hand or was explained what you’re expecting to see?
The artwork is strictly connected with the lyrics of the the opening track, "No Ground To Hold" and the title track. I think the interpretation will be much easier when you read the lyrics. (Yeap, waiting for the vinyl to come out, then I will definitely take a look at them; promo copy doesn’t have any lyrics, sadly! – P666). The cooperation with Alex was easy. We all admire his works so I contacted him, gave him some clues and details concerning the symbolism, then he told me his vision which met my expectations, to say the least. Of all albums I took part in, this is the best cover we've had so far, I'm proud of it.

Musically „Working Class Misanthropy” doesn’t disappoint. It is vicious, violent, aggressive and truly bestial album, with many killer songs stylistically mixing the old school thrash, even death metal with the ferocity of black metal. Also the album is short, but totally insane, intense and is like a furious attack, from start to finish having no mercy! I guess you’ve manage to get the right balance between the length and intensity of the album, right?
Yes, the album was meant to be a punch in the face so 30-35 minutes is an optimum length. We don't want to bore anyone, especially ourselves.

I’m quite surprised (positively!) that the album has quite clean, but powerful production, but also that there’s so much catchiness in the music and finally that when you sing in Polish I can really easily understand the words (especially in „Uniesienie”, which musically has almost punk feeling) and you know… it is not that kind of totally obscure, filthy, chaotic and morbid style of thrashing black metal anymore. Your comment?
Well, we don't try to fit in any particular niche. Of course, our music can be easily labelled black / thrash / death metal and you can hear lots of obvious influences, but I believe it has some Voidhanger's sound is somewhat distinctive. We didn't reinvent the wheel, but it's not your average retro band.

I may be picky, but I really feel like some truly killer Polish bands such as Infernal War, Gortal, Azarath, Kriegsmaschine, Furia and also Voidhanger are not promoted enough abroad and thus they are not so well known there… while musically they’re better than 90% of the US or European well known acts. Is it just my impression or am I right here? How do you feel? I mean, is Pagan records pushing you now also abroad, doing some advertising campaigns and promotion or is it all quiet there? What expectations do you have from your label? I mean it is the third release and third label you’re working with…
Well, maybe you're right, but I think most of the bands you mentioned are well-known and respected abroad. As for promotion and stuff, we are a small underground band and we don't aim at extensive touring and big promotional campaigns. Pagan Records does a good job. It's still too early to say something more, but from what I know, Tom is doing his best. Our expectations are reasonable.

„A Song for Lennon” - what is this lyric about? It clearly has connection to the old The Beatles’ classic „Imagine (All the People)”, but I somehow feel like it may be more sarcastic link and the meaning of your song will be totally different hehe! And in „Days of Cathartic Solitude” we can hear „Freezing Moon” (love your imitation of Attila’s howling here!) and „Transilvanian Hunger” titles in the lyrics. Are these your favourite and most inspiring black metal classics and bands?
The lyrical side of "A Song For Lennon" is a mockery of Lennon's "Imagine" (it's not The Beatles' song). I like The Beatles and some Lennon's albums, but I hate that pacifist, utopian bullshit. Open your eyes, the world won't live as one. "Days Of Cathatric Solitude" deal with the feelings some of my favourite black metal albums can invoke. Your promo version does not have the lyrics, but the second part of the lyrics includes many references to some classic recordings. Mayhem or Darkthrone are among them, but it also mentions many older albums like "Blood Fire Death", "Morbid Tales" or "In The Sign Of Evil" which are much more important to me than any Darkthrone album. By the way, the Attila-like vocals are sung by M. of Kriegsmaschine / Mgła.

Are you a fan of old horror movies and generally prefer the 70’s/80’s movies over the new ones? I ask this for the song „Ilsa” is obviously inspired by „Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS”, movie with just impossibly ridiculous plot hehe. I guess this movie is not so popular, so tell people what it is all about and what it has that it influenced you to write „lsa”?
I'm definitely a fan of older movies. Maybe I'm not a freak collecting rare, expensive releases of C-movies, but I watch a lot of it, no matter the genre. Anyway, I adore old exploitation movies and "Ilsa - She Wolf Of The SS" is a bloody classic of the genre. You know - lots of naked chicks, blood, violence and bad acting. It's a story of Ilsa, sadistic and sexually insatiable commandant of Nazi prison camp. Stupid as fuck, but great fun to watch.

I think I’ve read somewhere that „Skorpion” is telling an authentic story of Polish serial killer. I would like to ask you to tell something more about this text, but also ask about the news of Mariusz Trynkiewicz (a paedophile, who killed four boys back in the 80’s and was sentenced for 25 years and now is about to be released… There’s a debate (created by the fear, I suppose), whether he should be freed at all or closed in custody, because his reclamation wasn’t successful… So, what do you think of this guy and the whole problem, which the authorities have now?
"Scorpion" tells a story about one of famous Polish serial killers who murdered several women in the 80’s. The lyrics are based on actual events and statements you can find in documentaries about Tuchlin. As for Trynkiewicz, I don't give a damn, but it's annoyning that my taxes are wasted for people like him. If they had put a bullet through his head in the right time, they would not waste the money now. Anyway, he's just one more thing politicians use to draw people's attention from more important subjects. Anyway, I've just heard that an original yellow goat Bathory LP was found in his cells.

Hehe! It may be also interesting to our foreign readers to know what happened on 25.12.1976?
One of the most infamous crimes of the 70s Poland happened. In short, Jon Sojda, a rich owner of an agricultural farm decided to take revenge on a family that, in his opinion, disgraced his family. On the night of x-mass eve, he lured out of the church three members of the abovementioned family (including a 12-year-old kid and a pregnant girl). Then they run the kid over with their car and beaten the rest with car wheel spanners. Then they run the bodies of the three over with their cars again trying to make it look like an accident. One of the cars used to chase the victims was a bus full of people which didn't protest as they were affraid of Sojda. There were about 30 witnesses, but all of them were forced by Sojda to take some kind of blood oath and swear they would never say a word about what happened. That's the most fascinating part of the story - the conspiracy of
silence, not the murder itself. People are affraid to speak about what happened even now, many of them departed it from their memories. It's very dark and creepy story,

I already got to know your musical taste a little, with some discussions about some records. But tell me now, what are the last albums, which you have bought and which truly have become your instant favourites? Which are the bands, which are catching your attention nowadays the most? Also, do you think that today it is still possible to record such eternal metal classics as ”Show No Mercy”, „De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas”, „Scream Bloody Gore” or „To Mega Therion” - so, I mean albums, which will be remembered for decades, gain the legendary status and be influential for next generations? Or all bands today just re-do the old formulas, adding some more original patters and besides, the flood of bands and music today makes it impossible to become the legends anymore? Do you think that for instance such Repugnant’s „Epitome of Darkness” can be called a legendary, cult, classic LP now?
Well, the latest albums of Nick Cave, David Bowie, Portal, Obliteration, Bolzer, Voivod have become my instant favourites, that's for sure, but I must say I buy a lot of old albums. I listen to lots of different music, both old and new, and it doesn't really matter if it's metal or not, old Bathory, Einsturzende Neubauten, Ultravox, Bestial Warlust or the new album of Ulcerate. As a listener, I'm rather open-minded. For example, the new album of Nocturnal Graves is fucking great, but so are the latest efforts of Have A Nice Life, Theologian or Arcade Fire. I don't care about the labels, I care about the music. And yes, I think it's still possible to record a metal album that will become a classic in the future. Some albums of Deathspell Omega or Portal have already become classics, in my opinion. Repugnant's "Epitome Of Darkness", Cadaver's "Necrosis" can also be seen as some sort of classic albums even if they're not as influential as obvious albums from the 80’s. It depends on what you consider classic albums - the highlights of a particular genre released in a particular period of time or eternal source of inspiration for next generations of musicians. Of course, we live in different times now. The scene is overcrowded.

And from the Polish scene, what bands would you recommend especially to the foreign metal maniacs?
Voidhanger, of course.

We’ve discussed also some problems (which mainly I have hehe) with too many old bands coming back to life after years of being dead and reforming, for whatever purpose and reason. How do you see the reunions of bands like Centinex, Carcass, At the Gates, Convulse and the fact that such Abhorrence, Baphomet or God Macabre are playing some gigs now, 20 years after they split up? For me it is just becoming ridiculous and kind of circus really.
It depends on the band and the quality of music. Maybe some of them do it for money trying to cash on the demand for old school death metal or their own legend, but on the other hand - I think some guys do it just for fun. You know, people are telling you how much they like your old albums, you meet your old friends, together you play your old songs and just feel it clicks, it's not forced then. Anyway, I've got no problem with that. Some of those comeback releases are really good.

Do you think that the old bands, which are active for 20 or more years and have done 10 or more albums can still offer something truly worthy to the fans? I mean, isn’t it more like their habit of doing albums, then touring etc, because they cannot do anything else, even if musically they don’t have anything exciting to offer anymore and are just more and more boring, especially when it is obvious that most likely they won’t do the album, which can rival their early works? I categorize now, as there are some exceptions (like Asphyx!), but really, isn’t it better to listen to some young bands, which have enthusiasm, passion and are really interested in doing extremely great album, rather than making another product, another piece of discography? OK, I’ll give some examples: Unleashed, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Sinister, Vader…
Again, it depends on what a band has to offer. I agree, many old bands are recording boring, constipated albums, but on the other hand - bands like Grave, Marduk, Denial Of God, Sodom has made some great records in the last few years. Besides, there are bands I simply like. I don't expect Sodom or Voivod to record something as timeless and flawless as „Persecution Mania” or „Dimension Hatross”, but still I can't wait for their new albums and I'm never disappointed. I focus on what's good.

OK, we have talked about many different subjects… Hope you’ve enjoyed the interview. Anything else you would like to add to finish this conversation? All the best!
Thanks for you time and interest in Voidhanger. Long live Perdition!

Bombs of Hades - Recoil In Horror

BOMBS OF HADES - Recoil in Horror (7"EP De:Nihil Records)
Ah, Bombs of Hades is such a cool band. I love both their full length albums... recently I was finally able to get the second one "The Serpent's Redemption" on vinyl, but in my collection I also have some of their split EPs, which they have released. Not all of them were totally awesome, some songs were kind of mediocre in my opinion, like the stuff which is on the splits with Usurpress and Mordbrand, but from the other hand I just love "Into the Eternal Pits of Fire" and split with Tormented. And now I have a pleasure to listen to the newest 7" single from Bombs of Hades titled "Recoil in HOrror" and damn, I think that it is one of their best releases so far! I managed to get a copy directly from Jonas Stalhammar and I am really happy about it, because De:Nihil Records released it only in 275 (unnumbered) copies. So, not many, be quick then if you want one!
There are two songs on this single. On side A we have the title song, which is just typical for Bombs of Hades song; very old school, classic crusty death metal. There are just great riffs (the one in the end reminds me one motif from Dismember I think hehe), killer atmosphere, awesome vocals of Jonas... Just excellent track, really. And on side B we have a Black Sabbath cover, of their "Over and Over" song. Great choice, if you ask me, because it is lesser known song, not one of those obvious classics, which normally are covered. But I just love the way Bombs of Hades did this cover, with that dark, doomy mood... It is just fuckin excellent and one of the best covers, which I have heard recently. Definitely it is the main reason why you should get this single! Fuckin killer!!!!!!!

Repuked / Haemophagus - Split EP

REPUKED / HAEMOPHAGUS - Split (NO POSERS PLEASE! - 7"EP 2012)
First thought, which I had in my mind when I looked at this 7" vinyl was "who the fuck came out with an idea to do it in such an awful green colour?!!" hehe. Yeah, it may look even worse than the pink colouring of the split between Anatomia and Offal hehe! But maybe it is a trademark of No Posers Please! Records hehe??? Anyway, the colour of the vinyl is less important... Let's listen to some filthy, disgusting gore grind death metal, shall we??!! Two bands are here. First one if called Repuked and I know these crazy Swedes' music only from the debut album "Pervertopia" and the second is Italian Haemophagus, whose name I know because some of their members are now also in Undead Creep, but I haven't heard their music yet. By the way, this 7" split with Repuked is already the eight split release, which Haemophagus participates in. Not bad, hehe!
Now, speaking of the music. I guess that both bands are reserved only for really die hard maniacs of gory death metal. Why? Well, it is so disgusting, so filthy, so rude and obscure that I think that some of the fans of more polished sound (from Sunlight, etc) can feel pushed away by such Repuked. But! Who cares? I like it. Repuked is really cool. I like the fact that these Swedes don't sound like a typical death metal band from their country; there's absolutely no trace of classic feeling and melody of other bands from Sverige, instead they gasp into the classic death / gore / grind scene from USA and such bands as Autopsy (OF CORPSE!! Who else!?), Abscess, Repulsion, Impetigo, Necrophagia, etc etc... This is truly crazy band, with chaotic riffs, raw production and vocals vomiting some truly disgusting - but also kind of funny hehe - lyrics. Such song as "Where the Fungus Grows" is just a fun to listen to and that's it. Nothing innovative here, nothing what you can play on your grandma's birthday, but if you're looking for some sick sounds to accompany after watching some old horror movies, then this is perfect. And Haemophagus fits here perfectly. They may have slightly cleaner production, but musically it is pure old school death grind. There are four songs here! Yeah, four, but two of them are very short. One is titled " Owner of a Necrotic Intestine" (and it is Regurgitate cover) and another one is "Viscera Pie" - both are barely 40 seconds short, while the remaining two tracks are 2,5 and 3 minutes long. Stylistically they remind me Pungent Stench a little, but I think they also have some sort of Swedish death / grind touch in their music as well... All in all, I definitely enjoyed their part of the split a lot. It is quite catchy, great for headbanging, almost kind of catchy music, way less filthy and not as chaotic as Repuked stuff, but that doesn't mean it is not brutal! Oh yeah, there are also some sick and fast parts here and there! Very good band, indeed, and I am sure I will get some mor eof their music soon.
All in all, very good split EP here. I've enjoyed both bands, maybe Haemophagus little bit more... but Repuked is also great and sick as hell. "Piss, cum, puke, drinks of analjuice from asshole bloodshit pour, unquenchable thirst for me!" Oh yeah! Hehehehe!

Bloodshed - Inhabitants of Dis

BLOODSHED - Inhabitants of Dis (CODE666 - CD 2002)
Now I have a pleasure to bring forth from the past an incredibly killer album of quite unknown band; a band, which I think have never gained the deserved attention and whose recordings have unfortunately passed by without much attention. And it is a shame, because I know that Bloodshed was great band and the music, which they served on "Inhabitants of Dis" and "Bloodshed" EP - these are the only two recordings of the band, which I know - was just special. And even if there were more than 15 bands called Bloodshed, this one was defintiely the best of all. Personally I was introduced to this band, when their old record label CODE666 has sent me a promotional copy of "Inhabitants of Dis" to review. And I was so blown away by the music, its high quality, atmosphere... and also by the fact that something so brilliant came out from such an unknown band! Arrghh, that was it! Perfect sounds for me. I even immediately did an interview with Bloodshed...
But that was ten years ago and since then I am afraid I lost the band from my sight. All I know is that later on Bloodshed recorded and selfreleased their second album "Stale Cold Cell Recital", but soon afterwards split up. And some guys have formed new band called Rev 16:8, which I think is little bit more known among the maniacs nowadays. But I feel disappointed that Bloodshed has split up so soon and that I will probably never have a chance to hear their second album... Anyway, I come back to "Inhabitants of Dis" frequently and maybe now it is time to write my second review of this album and maybe recommend it again to people. Because, you can trust me, whenever you see this CD somewhere available for purchase, buy it quickly. You won't regret that!
Now, what's so special about "Inhabitants of Dis", some will ask? Well, just give a listen... It is perfectly composed, performed and recorded album, with just truly brilliant songs. When you listen to it for the first time you already know it is just excellent and more so, personally I was amazed how catchy and memorable this album is, but at the same time it is aggressive and harsh and more so, it also has great dark atmosphere. And it is also incredibly diverse, so basically everytyhing about this CD is just top notch! That diversity comes with the brilliant mixing of death and black metal playing and atmospheres, and I think Bloodshed did some of the best mixtures of these two styles, which I have ever heard. And more so, they got just killer production, thanks to the famous Tomas Skogsberg and his Sunlight Studio (but interestingly it doesn't have that typical Sunlight sound at all!).
"Inhabitants of Dis" starts with a Big Bang! First song titled "Death by Hanging" is just incredibly killer black metal tune, with very specific riffing. And that riffing plus the atmosphere of the song reminds me strongly one of my favourite bands ever, the Norwegian Thorns. Already this fact is something what I would never expect, but welcome it with great pleasure, as - believe me or not - the result is just incredibly awesome. Great, catchy and memorable riffing, played at mid and utterly fast speed, harsh vocals, grim atmosphere... Yeah, this is it! But then the second song "Mark of the Cursed" blows out from the speakers, delivering increased speed, truly furious and relentless playing and is a pure death / black metal devastation! In such fast parts Bloodshed reminds me such God Dethroned from one hand - also because the vocals remind me Henri Sattler - but from the second hand there is a lot in common with Immortal, Necrophobic and even Marduk and Swedish black metal scene in general. With two calm, acoustic moments, which will give you a time to take a breath, the rest of the material is a damn blast. Every song has something special and it always is just perfectly composed and performed. I truly love every aspect of this album. The riffs are just brilliant, the vocals as well... and I love how intense, furious and fast "Inhabitants of Dis" is, but I like the slower parts as well, so it is great ferocious, aggressive and insanely memorable music...
Urrghhhh... EVery time when I listen to "Inhabitants of Dis" I have a great neck ache and feel like my head was about to fall off, as with such an intense music you must behave properly - I mean you must bang your head and mosh like crazy. And I just can't understand how did it happen that something so brilliant is so unknown! Anyway, I truly recommend "Inhabitants of Dis"; this is one of the best albums released in the early 00's! This is one of those records, which you see in some catalogues and think "uhh, never heard of this band before, so it probably is nothing good". But trust me, this is just bloody excellent, so next time you see "Inhabitants of Dis" in a distro or wherever, buy it!!! This band is unknown, but they don't sound like newcomers.
Standout tracks: "Death by Hanging", "Mark of the Cursed", "Dark Trace", "Kiss of Cruelty"

Atomizer - The Only Weapon of Choice

ATOMIZER - The Only Weapon of Choice (AGONIA Records - Cd 2004)
We all love the Australian extreme metal scene with countless killer bands, which play the most vicious and obscure styles of metal. I must say though that among all these bands there is one, which is more underestimated in my opinion and have hardly ever been mentioned among people’s favourites. It is Melbourne’s Atomizer. They have – or I should rather say had, because the band split up back in 2008 – quite vast discography, with several albums, EPs, etc. Enough to convince about the great quality of their music. My favourite piece of their discography is an album released back in 2003 titled “The Only Weapon of Choice - 13 Odes to Power, Decimation and Conquest”. Oh, this is a fantastic piece of old styled thrashing black metal. This album introduced me to Atomizer actually, as before I got it I didn’t know shit about the band at all. And I received this album from Agonia Records back in 2004, when they released it here in Europe. I was so impressed with the music that I even did interview with Jason Healey and more so, I even putted Atomizer on the cover of my fanzine – which I think was the only time (or at least the first time ever), when this band was featured on a cover of a zine / magazine. Cool! So, now it’s ten years since I got to know Atomizer and I guess it is also a good opportunity to play “The Only Weapon of Choice - 13 Odes to Power, Decimation and Conquest” and enjoy this awesome music one more.
And there is really so much awesome music to enjoy on “The Only Weapon of Choice” that I guarantee that the maniacs of pure, classic heavy metal will love it fully. Atomizer was taking a lot of influence from the classic 80’s bands, be it Venom, Bathory, Celtic Frost, Sodom, Destruction, Kreator… But they did that in excellent style, making sure that each song, which was composed was special and had something unique about it. I can sincerely say that there whole album is filled with killer classic songs and not even one may feel like a filler. From start to finish “The Only Weapon of Choice” delivers extremely awesome, utterly possessing and bestially crushing pure metal sounds, and this music truly feels like it was recorded back in the old days. It is a demonstration of power, of violence, viciousness and aggression.
Most of the songs on “The Only Weapon of Choice” are classic thrash metal combined with the black metal ferocity and evilness… and so you’ll witness some truly awesome, utterly aggressive and powerful songs such as “Power, Not Participation”, “Join the Blackheart Reich”, “The Campaign”, “The Only Weapon of Choice” and so on and on… they truly have some great riffs, awesome harsh vocals of Jason and you know… if you like the Aussie scene with Gospel of the Horns, Destroyer666 and Grenade then I bet you’ll love Atomizer as well. These songs have many hooks, many perfect parts to bang the skull… and sometimes like in “For Blackness Absolute” they almost have that punk simplicity and mood. Meanwhile somewhere in between you’ll find such “Sometimes They Hear the Bullet”, which is a pure tribute to Venom I think, but it’s such an excellent song, one of my favourites here! And even better is “When I Die, I Wanna Die Violently”. This is epic, kind of melodic track, maybe slightly similar to Desaser but better! Very catchy song, very memorable and with some quite interesting lyrics. So you can imagine that during the whole album Atomizer is delivering many great tunes and a lot of diversity, so it is just pure joy to listen to it. This is one of those albums, which never gets boring and for me it belongs to some of the best LPs, which came from the world down under. Very recommended!
Standout tracks: “When I Die, I Wanna Die Violently”, “Sometimes They Hear the Bullet”, "The Campaign", "The Only weapon of Choice"

Hell - Obedience - Promo MMXIII

HELL - Obedience - Promo MMXIII (Self financed MC 2013)
This is the second of two projects of Crystallis, which he has sent me lately on tapes. Musically Hell is quite different to what I have heard on Alcoholichrist’s “Sickness Addiction”. The whole tape titled “Obedience - Promo MMXIII” contains four songs, plus my copy also have a new bonus song. Anyway, I must say that while Alcoholichrist was utterly depressive, harsh and misanthropic doomy black metal, Hell presents something what I like even more. There are quite few moments, which make me think of the classic Greek black metal scene, with such bands as Deviser, old Rotting Christ, Necromantia, Varathron – and really Hell is quite close musically to these cults, especially in the more melodic songs, such as “Ascending the Scales of Belial” or truly phenomenal “Obedience”, which surely is the best song from here, with a brilliantly possessing, memorable chorus. Hell definitely is more oriented towards creating the dark atmosphere and damn! They’ve done it perfectly, with these great riffs and more kind of whispering vocals. Yeah, I truly like this material, it is short, but really good. These two songs, which I mentioned above are probably my favourites, but “Submersive Emotion” is also excellent, with harsher and more aggressive mood, maybe kind of similar to some Shining stuff, so more in the Scandinavian sound… I must also say that sometimes I feel like there are similarities to new Greek BM scene with Acherontas and Serpent Noir, to bring just these two examples. Hell presents the classic approach towards the black metal, but what must be pointed out is that the production is not that primitive, garage, where you can barely hear anything, and that is good, because otherwise you would just loose so much… Luckily it is not the case here and I can truly say that “Obedience” is just great demo and Hell is a must have for all the maniacs of underground black metal.

Incarceration - interview with Daniel!

Old school death metal freaks... let’s gather for another feast of blood and guts! Here is German / Brazilian Incarceration. Daniel has answered my questions, enjoy!

Hi there Daniel! How are you doing? I hope everything is fine. Let’s start with some different than musical topics. First of all, you’re Brazilian, but for some time you live in Germany. Is it a temporary or permanent move? What made you move to Europe? How do you find yourself in the cold European winter hehe? Frozen to death yet hehe?
Hi Marcin, it's cool to have a conversation with you through this interview. One more time metal is connecting people, curva! Yes, I'm Brazilian but years ago I moved to Germany because of my girl. She's German and after some years living in Brazil we decided to move here. So it's permanent. Regarding the winter, well, I like when it's too cold here and I can travel to Brazil haha.

I wonder how would you compare living here in Europe and in South America, in Brazil? Are there some things, which you appreciate more in one or another places, like climate, food, booze, etc?
Definitely here there are more gigs. I live near of Hamburg and almost every week there are good gigs there, sometimes 3 good gigs on the same week. Needless to say about the metal festivals (Death Metal Overdoses !), and tons of possibilities to play somewhere if you're musician. So for Necromaniacs here is definitely a better place to live metal intensively. Anyway Brazilian food rules and booze? Polish vodka curva !

Hehe, I see that you’ve had some experience with some Polish maniacs before hehe! Great!
Everyone talks about Brazil now because of the upcoming football world cup and the Olympic games. Well, it probably gives the Brazilians as much prestige as problems… What do you think about organizing two such major events in such a short time? Will it be successful for Brazil as a country and help you fight the poverty?
Brazilians loves to party and these events mean lots of parties. And with the whole world looking for it, right? So, for many people these events mean fun and somehow they are happy with that. But personally me and a few people think Brazil needs quality hospitals, schools and jobs for the population, instead of football stadiums. Unfortunately, education in Brazil is not good and people are not stimulated to develop their critical thinking. Luckily the number of criticising Brazilians is growing, and more and more people are thinking that way, sometimes going to the streets to scream for justice etc. Anyway

I'm not so optimist regarding these events. It's sad but I expect no more than lots of corruption, neverending parties, some tourists making jokes with the Brazilian culture... but deep inside of me I hope that the good tourists will feel welcome, the population will get something positive with these experiences. And it would be fun if Brazil (or Germany) wins the Cup haha !

OK, let’s move to music. When and how was Incarceration formed? Did you start it already in Germany or little bit before coming here?
I started it as an one man project in 2010. When I moved to Germany in December 2011 I already had the whole concept, some songs. So in 2012 I began searching for the sickest death metal maniacs over here and after some time I found Björn and Micha.

I think that in the beginning Incarceration was a solo project, am I right? But now you’ve been joined by Michael Koch and Björn Freese. Are they full band members, who also have some responsibility for songwriting and arrangements, or more like live musicians? How have you met them?
You're right. They are full members and they are having more and more responsibilities on the whole band. They are so engaged, I feel very lucky to have met them. I believe that Ronnie James Dio - The Immortal God of Metal - was putting his finger to make it happen. I was asking around for the sickest bassplayer of Hamburg, that's when I found Björn. I sent him one track of Incarceration, he liked it and we went to a Death Metal gig together to know each other. One of the first things he said after he caught a beer was "Fuck, I hate these guys that come to gigs and don't bang their heads” and went directly to the first row and stayed there banging his head as a maniac for almost the whole gig! Micha - I've met him months later at an apartment party of a common friend of ours. He saw my patch of Abhorrence (Bra) and said that he could play that on the drums. Then he told he could play Rebaelliun too. I was thinking 'WTF?' so I asked him if he's into old school Death Metal and he said “Fuck Yeah! You'll Never See!”. On this same night he got so drunk that he was the first to fall asleep, then I thought “he's the guy!”. Now we play together and we all love each other. Awesome brotherhood we developed in such a short time. Only Filet is Real !

I wonder how did the recording session for “Sacrifice” looked like. I mean the drums were recorded in Brazil by Escarnium drummer Nestor Carrera and rest of the instruments were recorded in your own studio. But the sound is truly awesome, so I must admit that it makes me wonder how great effect you can get nowadays at home studio. Are you happy with the sound of it?
The good side recording at home, is that it's cheap and you can spend as much time as you want. Listen thousands of times, record again if needed. And the mix / master helped a lot to improve the final quality. So yes, I'm satisfied.

“Sacrifice” has been pressed on all possible formats, including vinyl. How have you got in touch with all these labels? Especially F.D.A. Rekotz seems to be like a best label for German old school death metal bands, so I wonder if they will be the ones, who you see as a potential label to release a full length album?
I was in touch with all of them before recording it. So after having it done, I just sent it to them, they liked and released it. Yes, F.D.A. Rekotz is a very good label to work with. And usually they have stands on the coolest festivals over here, and Rico, the owner, always brings some beers with him and give us some. So it couldn't be better haha! Need to mention Dawnbreed Records who released the vinyl and CD of “Sacrifice” and did an awesome job in all senses. They even did a patch for the first
copies of the vinyl, so it was amazing, especially when you're beginning as a band and have just three songs in hand. Misanthropic Records also is doing an awesome work there in Brazil and hopefully soon we will announce other releases over the world. By the way, they have tons of cool stuff on their catalogue, check it out: www.fda-rekotz.com (Germany), www.dawnbreed.com (The Netherlands), www.misanthropic.com.br (Brazil).

The music is damn intense, violent and aggressive, I am quite thrilled how furiously energetic these songs are. What were, do you think, your main musical influences, which led you to compose and result in something so uncompromising, old school and obscure? Are these only old, classic bands, or also some newer ones?
Both. I listen “Reign in Blood” everyday, so it's from far my main influence. I can't get enough with Hanneman riffs and all I do is to try to make riffs so aggressive, venomous and intense as their riffs. Then you put the fastest riffs of old Sepultura, Repugnant, Nihilist, Repulsion, Sadistic Intent as influences and you will understand our influences.

Yeap, they are pretty obvious. You’ve been a member of couple of Brazilian band Mortificy. I think you had your brother Mauricio on vocals. Is this band still active, if you’re away from Brazil?
Mortificy was my first official band with releases, gigs etc. Fucking brutal Death Metal, full of blasting beats insanity on the vein of Abhorrence, Rebaelliun, Ophiolatry and other Brazilian acts. Mauricio? Who is Mauricio? The correct name of my brother is Marcelo haha! And yes he's the vocalist. The band is on hold now, but we have an EP recorded to be released. It's not easy when you're living so far away and with other projects going on.

Yeah, who the fuck is Mauricio hehe? I didn’t realize, but I have “Brutal Instinct of Retaliation” demo released on the split “4 Tormenting Ways to Death” released by Polish Gruft Records. Hehe, haven’t listened to this CD for many years now! Do you remember how did it happen it was released by Gruft?
Ha, ha it's a crazy story, let's go back in the 2000's. I had sent the demo to be reviewed around the world and somehow Mephisto from Gruft invited us to the 4-way. For some reason we lost contact, so I didn't receive our copies. Then many years later, in 2012, I was travelling over Poland with Escarnium and at a gig in Poznan I've met a guy selling some records there. We haven't known each other, then he asked me where I came from and after I said "I'm from Brazil", he said "Cool, my first release was a 4 way with one Brazilian band". So I asked "Which band?" and he answered "The band is called Mortificy". I was like "FUCK! DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?", "hummm, no?", "I AM DANIEL, FROM MORTIFICY!!!", "FUUUUCK!!!" and after that, it was so great man! It was Mephisto. He gave me tons of CDs, hugs, vodkas (curva!) and me and Escarnium guys even slept at his place that night. Metal sometimes bring so crazy moments, fuck. :)

And what about “Burn and Suffer”? Can you tell me something more about this album? Is it available anywhere? How would you compare it musically to the previous Mortificy materials, but also to Incarceration? Feels like Mortificy is way more brutal.
So far I know it's sold out. But I think that if you search you can find it somewhere. Humm… Mortificy and Incarceration are totally different in my opinion. Mortificy is full of blasting beats, growls and brutality and Incarceration is on the very old thrash / death way, full of screams and 'tupa tupa tupa tupa tupa' you know? And I advanced in the art of riffing. So with Incarceration I try to write killer songs while with Mortificy, as you said, we wrote brutal ones.

How do you view the Brazilian death metal? From one hand it is considered to be cult with classics albums of bands like Sepultura, Sacrofago, Chakal, Volcano, Headhunter DC and so on and on, but also we have many newer bands, which created something different - fast as hell and technical bands like Krisiun, Rebaelliun, Nephasth, Ophiolatry. Of course there are many, many more great bands. So, what do you think of your native scene? Which is your favourite Brazilian LP of all time?
It's so great to hear about these bands, Marcin! We need to drink some Polish vodkas and Brazilian cachaças someday and listen to them curva! \m/ I love Brazilian bands and, especially the brutal ones you mentioned. I can't say just one Brazilian LP, but “And the Sky Turns to Black”, “Burn the Promised Land” and “Evoking the Abomination” makes me crazy. I fucking go insane with them, fuck! Need to listen to them right now, curva !

Definitely Daniel, definitely. You are absolutely right. But what the hell is cachaças? Escarnium seems to be your brother band, you share some members for live playing in Brazil with them and had that digital split EP released together. I love their “Excruciating Existence” album, it is a very strong and killer stuff! What do you think of this band? How was that tour you played together? Was it exciting for you?
Escarnium? They are a bunch of Filets, filets da puta (motherfuckers) haha!! Love that guys Marcin, they live in my heart. I'm so fucking thankful to them. Nestor recorded the drums of “Sacrifice” EP, he and Victor played some gigs on our tour. It was so funny, we had never rehearsed before, so in Milan I said before the gig "Hi everybody, we never rehearsed before so maybe this gig will be a shit, but let’s begin the ritual!!" and BOOM! They kicked all asses over there, it was insane! Big pleasure. I already did 2 tours with them. Micha and Björn also had very good times with them on the first gigs of our tour together. We all are strongly connected. Only Filets are Real. \m/

OK, back to Incarceration. I would like to ask you about the lyrics for “Cemetery of Lies”. It is quite a horror story, with a priest raping a child and revenge taken by the father… Now there’s a lot of talk about the pedophile priests and the public is more and more making a pressure on Vatican to stop this hypocrisy and cut the pedophilia in the church once and for all. I think that obviously it is very sad what happens to these children, but from the other hand it only fastens the fall of christianity, people really have enough of them. But Brazil is still deeply religious, right? Probably just as much as Poland hehe! We’re still in Middle Ages kind of he!
There are so many churches in Brazil, you can't believe. (I suppose I can, as it probably is just as normal part of the landscape as it is here in Poland hehe – P666) A fucking lot, everywhere you look you see churches over there. And most of them earn money asking 10% of people's income. They call it 'dízimo', and they say stupid things like that when you pay your dizimo, you are building your house in heaven. It's so fucking stupid and sad to see an infinite amount of poor people being brainwashed
and giving 10% of their very short money for these institutions. And now the small churches from before are growing so fast there, they are becoming strong in the politics, in the strong media such as television. Their moral, their values are so fucking conservative and stupid, I fucking hate them! Hate them! Let's go there Marcin, kill these bastards of Christ and burn them all into their Cemetery of Lies!!!! Uh!

Just like in the good old Deicide song, ha? I think there are some killer gigs confirmed for Incarceration, like the gigs with Necrowretch and Morbus Chron or with Unaussprechlichen Kulten. What expectations do you have from these gigs? And also, what about the concerts, which you already gave? What were they like? Which were your favourite and gave you the best memories? Share some thoughts with us!
Yes, it's awesome to have a band in north Germany. This week we confirmed another gig with Nunslaughter and Demonical in Hamburg, it will be another memorable night. It's still a bit surreal for a guy who had a band for so long time in Amazon / Brazil, far away from everything. With Unaussprechlichen Kulten we are going to tour together in September actually, also together with the Mexican maniacs of Zombiefication. I'm looking forward to it. This year we are playing at Party San Open Air, Grind the Nazi Scum Festival, Nocturnal Fest in Berlin, it's amazing. Talking about Berlin, last time we played there it was fucking insane. Morbid Catacombs Festival was the name, we played together with our mates of Funeral Whore, Krypts, Slaughterday, Undead Creep, among others. Try to imagine a fucking HUGE squat, full of graffiti, artworks, punks, crusts, death metal heads, all together sharing a Death Metal night into something like an immense basement. When we started our gig it was so fucking insane, that kind of gig full of stage diving, insane first row with people being pushed to the stage, cable of the bass being disconnected lots of times! I'll Never forget of Kellie (Funeral Whore) having fun with the gig, going to the stage with her mini-handbag and reconnecting the cable of the bass that was being disconnected by the insane bangers while we were playing as fast we could! At some moment I was screaming as a maniac, then I looked to my side and I saw FIVE guys laying down over the stage, between me and Björn, one above each other. They were pushed to the stage, total chaos, fuck! Insane night! Would love to play there again! After that we were dead and in the end, me and Micha partied till 8am. When we leaved the 'catacombs' the light of the sun almost burned our eyes and skin, it was so bright, we felt like vampires going out from the cave. Crazy Berlin!

Hehehehe! And new material… what will it be and when? Thanks for your answers, Daniel!!!!!!!
The challenge now is to write the full album and record / release it as soon as possible. The thing is that we need time to write killer songs, but we are working hard to have it done soon. We are quite satisfied with the new songs we have like “Infernal Suffering”, “Chaos and Blasphemy”, among others. We plan to write something short and intense, “Reign in Blood” is our highest reference. Let's see what will come. Hope that Satan and Hannemann will keep inspiring our riffs and Dio will keep putting his finger on our Death Metal story while we walk through the left hand path ha, ha! Thank you for this interview Marcin, hope to meet you soon and share some night of metal insanity! Then will be your time to tell us your stories haha ! Death Metal 'till Death! Uh!
